Fall/Winter 2026-27 – Accessorizing the Top Runway Fashion Trends

Dressing up is always fun in the fall, and this year will be no exception. Fueled by dual sentiments of romance and irreverence, leading fashion designers are reinterpreting neutrals and getting inspired by the past, marking some significant shifts as the seasons change. Here are the top four runway trends for the Fall/Winter 2026-27 season, as well as some tips for how to accessorize them. 

“Autumn always brings a familiar nostalgia with it,” says Giuseppe Picchiotti, founder and lead designer at PICCHIOTTI. “The frivolity of summer is over, and the brass tacks of getting back-to-school or back-to-work inspires an industrious surge of activity in all of us. The comforting chill in the air inspires the delights of layering, the polishing of boots, and the sprucing up of outerwear, all to achieve the art of the reveal. Shrug off your scarf to reveal a statement necklace, or whisk away the jacket to expose a sparkling bracelet stack. Fall and winter fashions are often the perfect backdrop for stunning accessories.”

Just as we remove heavy fabrics for spring and summer, this autumn, we can pile on the fun, interpreting memes like “gemmaxing,” “neck messes,” big brooches, and statement stacks. More is more this season. Feel free to indulge. 

New Neutrals – Beige, Plum, Brown

Neutrals continue to dominate the runways of New York, Paris, London, and Milan. A subtle combo of white and beige is touted as the “new pair” by Harper’s Bazaar, and basic blacks are still prevalent. But newer basics are arriving in the deep autumn hues of plum and chestnut. Rich eggplant-colored fabrics inspired a “Purple Reign” (W Mag) at Celine, Mugler, Ferragamo, Loewe, and Tory Burch. This regal vibe is perfectly paired with deep red rubies and the darker shades of rubellite and pink tourmaline. Brown fabrics in chocolate, espresso, and toffee tones were also popular at Chloé, Max Mara, and Tod’s, often in monochrome looks or paired with black, gray, or darker greens. 

Another micro color trend for the season is pink, especially combos of pink with red, as seen at Alaïa, Celine, Prada, Balenciaga, Akris, and Vaquera. According to Harper’s Bazaar “Scarlet, fuchsia, and punchy pink tones bring lipstick-level color to this season.” Not a huge trend, but a fun way to switch up the palette when your eyes get tired of the blacks, tans, and off-white styles. Pink sapphires and tourmalines pair well with fabrics in pink, red, or purple hues and would add a feminine touch to the browns, so bring out your pink sapphire necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, or opt for the drama of a stunning statement ring with a large pink tourmaline ring with both onyx and diamonds.

Vintage Vibes – Drop–waists, Peplums, Flapper Fringe, Gloves, Brooches

Vintage vibes took center stage in many collections for the coming season as designers opted for drop waists and flapper style silhouettes at Chanel, Chloé, Valentino, The Row, and more. Fringe and ruffles added a sultry sashay at Givenchy, Carolina Herrera, Khaite, Gabriella Hearst, Rick Owens, and Simone Rocha. Peplums on blouses, suits, and dresses were seen at Dior, Elie Saab, Alexander McQueen, Ashlyn, and N21, continuing the trend from spring/summer collections. Mosaic and/or repetitive patterns gave a hint of period piece allure at Courrèges, Moschino, and Carolina Herrera. Most of these looks are ultra feminine calling for jewelry with flowers, bows, or lengthy drops to mimic the movement of the fringe or ruffles. Brooches are also making a comeback and have been for a few years now, adding to the sense of wistful nostalgia that shorter days and colder temps usher in. But this season, the brooches are more likely to be floral or crafted with ribbons and bows. 

Gloves were plentiful on the runways, often in sumptuous hues of leather or satin. Both short and long, they added the spice of a bygone era to many an outfit at Zimmerman, Lanvin, Givenchy, Elie Saab, Balenciaga, Issey Miyaki, Blumarine, Roberto Cavalli, Mugler. Some designers styled rings and bracelets on the outside of the gloves to add glamour to the handbag or overall neutral ensemble (see neutral trend above). So One–Sided – Asymmetrical Silhouettes and Trains

Another abundant style on the Fall/Winter runways was asymmetry, delivering a powerful sense of elegance. A surprising number of trains were seen, bringing the glamour of bridal gowns to the ready-to-wear category. The lengthy trains added to pants (Micheel Kors, Khaite), blouses (Balmain), skirts or dresses (Dior, Loewe, Collina Strada), and jackets (Valentino, Alexander McQueen) created asymmetrical silhouettes, either high-low front-to-back or off to one side. One-shoulder dresses and outer wear like capes worn on one side only provided a stunning sense of askew at Givenchy, Dior, Gucci, and Ferragamo. Slit skirts created left to right hi-low looks, exposing one leg at Alaïa, Bottega Veneta, Gabriella Hearst, and Balmain.

Accessorizing asymmetrical outfits can feel daunting, but welcome the looks as an opportunity to pile on your favorite jewels. The one-shoulder looks and trains off to the side are perfectly balanced with an armful of stackable bangles. PICCHIOTTI’s Xpandable bracelets come in a wide variety of designs, all-diamond or faceted colored gemstones or opaque fashion gems like turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, and onyx. Gothic Romance – Dark Florals, Lace, Sheers

Another prominent trend for Fall/Winter 2026-27 is what we are calling Gothic Romance, Wuthering Heights style drama evoking a hint of intrigue and mystery. Bustles, trains (as mentioned above), and lace cuffs were seen at Elie Saab, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Marina Moscone, Alberta Ferretti, Blumarine, Alaïa, and Simone Rocha. “Window dressing” (WhoWhatWear) in the form of peekaboo cut-outs, lace, and sheers were found at Prada, Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, Erdem, MiuMiu, and The Row. 

Romantic florals, normally popular for spring and summer, were elevated for autumn with larger sizes or darker tones and black backgrounds. These Dark Florals were found at Roberto Cavalli, Dries Van Noten, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, Erdem, and more, including some with fringe elements to heighten the dramatic effect. 

Accessorizing these trends calls for colorful gemstone jewels or the contrast of bold geometry. The dark florals work perfectly with bejeweled flowers in brooches, cocktail rings, earrings, and statement necklaces like PICCHIOTTI’s Flora necklace in tsavorites and diamonds. The darker laces, sheers, and cut-outs are lovely with the harmony and precision of geometric jewels, such as white diamonds in concentric hoops. Also, consider adding 21st century chic to these nostalgic looks like more modern diamond cuts. Whether you are experimenting with asymmetry or redefining your neutrals, sporting a non-bridal train or adding some hints of romance, enjoy the heightened sense of drama for the season ahead. Add bold accessories for sophistication and treat yourself to the luxury of soft leather or satin gloves – just don’t hide those rings. Gemmaxing is all about keeping the jewelry front and center.
