Floral High Jewelry Reigns Supreme for Spring/Summer 2025

Paris Couture Week for Spring/Summer 2025 unveiled a bevy of High Jewelry collections this year that featured Mother Nature as the queen of inspiration when it comes to High Jewelry. Floral motifs stole the show at Dior and Boucheron, while birds, bamboo, and wildlife flourished at Graff, Chaumet, and Cartier. PICCHIOTTI has long been enchanted by nature, as one of its two primary design inspirations (the other being architecture). Not surprisingly, PICCHIOTTI also has a bouquet of floral High Jewelry offerings for this season.

“Nothing takes my breath away quite like nature,” says Giuseppe Picchiotti, founder of PICCHIOTTI. “When I design my jewelry, one of my goals is to emulate that mesmerizing feeling we experience when we look into a beautiful orchid or inhale the sweet perfume of a delicate rose. I love to create literal floral pieces that capture this fleeting moment of beauty in an eternal and enduring way. I also love to get creative and let nature guide our designs in more abstract ways, as well. But unlike nature, these flowers will never fade. Maybe that’s why they are so alluring.”

The Iconic PICCHIOTTI Rose Brooch

The PICCHIOTTI Rose Brooch is a highly recognizable symbol of the brand and one of the first globally successful pieces that Giuseppe Picchiotti ever crafted. He launched the brand with this incredible and authentic recreation of a single long stem rose as a brooch almost 60 years ago.

According to jewelry historian and author Vivienne Becker, in her hefty tome commemorating the 50th anniversary of the PICCHIOTTI brand in 2017, “The diamond Rose Brooch was amongst the first PICCHIOTTI creations, designed and crafted in 1967, and refined and perfected through the years, so that today the PICCHIOTTI rose is treasured by collectors as a modern masterwork, one of the most iconic of PICCHIOTTI jewels.”

The brooch features over 400 brilliant-cut pavé-set diamonds. As described by Becker, “it captures the velvety perfection of the young rose as it slowly unfurls, caught mid-way in its blossoming, between a sweet, tightly-curled bud, full of promise, and a luscious, voluptuous full-blown bloom.  The design possesses the striking balance of dignity and sensuality that is so characteristic of PICCHIOTTI style.”

The Rose Brooch was so popular that others soon followed, including the rosebud brooch. Here, the rose is captured in its youth, a bud which has yet to fully bloom. Variations (as seen above) include a ruby version, one with sapphires, and a distinctive style with brown diamonds.

A Diamond Rose Is a Rose That Never Fades

The success of the PICCHIOTTI Rose Brooch inspired Giuseppe to create an entire collection based on the perfect beauty of the rose. The Rose Garden collection, also known as the Flora collection, includes dozens of wide ranging rose-inspired pieces. The rose flower is handcrafted with diamonds and 18K white gold in both full bloom and as a rosebud. The roses are precisely recreated with great attention to detail – the petals furling and overlapping as they do in wild roses on the vine.

The naturalistic beauty of the rose jewels in all their forms is thrilling, generating a joyful and emotional impact in the wearer. Crafted in sparkling white diamonds, these roses are versatile enough to go with anything in a sophisticated wardrobe. Rose button earrings bring a glimmer of natural beauty to the face.  The rosebud bracelet encircles the wrist with stems in 18 karat white gold and diamonds, with peeking buds fashioned at either end in 18 karat rose gold and diamonds. A stunning tsavorite collar necklace commands attention at the collar bone. The luscious green tsavorite garnets mimic a swirling vine with a sparkling diamond rose in full bloom that lays right above the breastbone.

New for 2025, the Flower collection features diamond Masterpieces in more abstract floral patterns. As shown on the model above, the Flowers feature a floral motif with star-like silhouette in both button and drop earrings, as well as in a cocktail ring, and an asymmetrical multi-strand necklace in which the floral motif repeats and cascades. All of these flowers are realized with superlative craftsmanship, ensuring their longevity despite the fleeting nature of their organic inspirations. These diamond flowers will never fade.

A global leader in colored gemstone jewelry, PICCHIOTTI also embraces the use of color in its recreations of nature’s flora and fauna. Flawless rubies and sapphires are prominent in the Flora collection, along with the occasional emerald or tsavorite garnet for flashes of green.  The iconic rose is fashioned with diamonds and exquisite large sapphire centers or with variations of rosy hues by combining rubies, pink sapphires, and rubellite. These large, classic floral cocktail rings can be appreciated by the wearer all day every day, bringing a smile to the eyes the same way a bouquet of real flowers do.

To highlight the beauty of the core of a flower, PICCHIOTTI uses a unique method to suggest the sensual parts of the flower such as the stamen and the pistol. For example, the colorful floral center of the brooch in the feature image above is crafted with a “tremblent” technique (in French “en tremblent”) which involves the use of springs that connect the pink sapphires to the center of the brooch. The spring creates movement whenever the wearer walks or moves, creating a distinctive sparkle. In the late 18th century and early 19th century, this technique was highly popular in High Jewelry as it reflected the scintillating light of candles prior to the advent of electrical overhead lighting.

Exquisite brooches are often fashioned by PICCHIOTTI’s talented craftsmen into one-of-a-kind treasures. The flower brooch shown above is an excellent example. The open diamond leaves are enhanced by a row of round rubies and a small cluster of both diamonds and rubies form the center. This exotic floral pin is perfect for a lapel and equally compelling on a hat, belt, scarf, or shoulder blade.

Pearls make appearances at the heart of colorful florals, as well. The tsavorite garnet and diamond petals in the pendant necklace shown above delicately wrap a large and lustrous South Sea pearl, forming a fun new way to wear the classic orb.

Beyond the Rose – Nature’s Abundance

Beyond the rose, there are lots of flowers that have inspired the PICCHIOTTI design team over the years, including the tulip, daisy, orchid, and nasturtium to name a few.  This is no surprise, given that Nature is one of the two primary design inspirations at PICCHIOTTI.

The PICCHIOTTI tulip brooch shown above was fashioned in the early 2000s and featured an almost ombré shading of pink sapphires, along with a tsavorite garnet stem, all embellished by round white diamonds.  The orchid is another perennial favorite at PICCHIOTTI.  The orchid brooch shown above debuted in the 1990s and takes its shape from the long sinuous petals of the orchid, each with a central vein fashioned in 18 karat gold that leads the eye gently to the core. The mixed metal design in both 18 karat yellow and white gold becomes a striking and universally appealing style.

The daisy, particularly the larger Gerber daisy, has also captured the attention of the PICCHIOTTI design team over the years. The large daisy pendant necklace was realized in 2012 and features pear-shaped pink sapphires in diamond petals that radiate around a glorious central emerald. The distinctive diamond chain makes this necklace a statement piece in any fine jewelry wardrobe. The large floral ring shown above also serves as a conversation starter, taking its sultry cues from the nasturtium flower. Broad flat diamond petals furl around a splendid cushion-cut rubellite creating an unforgettable cocktail ring. The flower is designed to float atop the fingers in an elegant and graceful way.

“To achieve even a glimpse of the fleeting beauty of Nature in precious materials that last beyond our lifetime is an unbelievable joy and source of pride for me,” says Giuseppe. “It makes my heart skip a beat. Like a proud new father, I levitate with glee each time we finish such a masterpiece. I hope everyone who wears these extraordinary sculptures will feel that joy and cherish it for many years to come.”
